Aizawl Zoological Park, established on November 24, 2006, is located 14 km from Aizawl, the state capital of Mizoram. Situated near Lungverh, along the Aizawl-Sairang road, the zoo spans 65 hectares of natural hilly terrain, providing a suitable habitat for its inhabitants. The zoo aims to conserve threatened species and educate the public about the importance of wildlife conservation. It houses over 198 animals, representing 17 species of endangered mammals, two species of endangered reptiles, four species of other mammals, and three species each of birds and reptiles. Conservation breeding programs have been undertaken for species like the Leopard cat, Stump-tailed macaque, and Serow. Visitors can also see rescued exotic birds like the Cassowary, Sulphur crested cockatoo, and Crown pigeon. The zoo's mascot is the binturong, also known as a bearcat. The park's landscape mimics the natural habitats of its animals, with well-maintained pathways connecting the enclosures. The zoo also features a botanical garden showcasing the region's native plants.
