The Global Peace Palace, also known as Shanti Mahal, is a unique monument located in Thumpoly, a seaside village about 4 km from Alappuzha city center in Kerala, India. This 42-foot-high structure is a replica of the Taj Mahal, built by AKB Kumar, an ex-Naval officer, as a tribute to war heroes and victims of terrorism. Kumar, who served in the 1971 India-Pakistan war, was motivated to create a symbol promoting peace after witnessing the perils and pain of war. The construction of the Global Peace Palace began in 2008 and was inaugurated in December 2011 by the Chief Minister of Kerala. The monument spans 7,000 square feet and features four minarets representing the Army, Navy, Air Force, and paramilitary forces. The names of war heroes who sacrificed their lives for the country are inscribed on the dome and minarets. Inside, a miniature library and a small museum highlight the pains of war and terrorism. A global flag mast displays miniature flags of all nations, symbolizing the Indian truism 'Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,' meaning 'the world is one family'. The Global Peace Palace stands as a symbol of unity and peace, embodying courage, resilience, and the hope for global harmony. The monument offers visitors a chance to reflect and honor the lives of those who served, with its serene atmosphere and architecture reminiscent of the Taj Mahal.
