Flag Point, or Tiranga Park, is more than just a scenic spot; it's a place steeped in history and national pride. Located near the South Point area of Port Blair, this is where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose hoisted the Indian flag for the first time on Indian soil on December 30, 1943. This act declared the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as the first Indian territory freed from British rule. The event was a monumental step in India's struggle for independence. Today, Flag Point features a towering 150-foot flagpole with the Indian tricolor fluttering proudly. The surrounding park offers a peaceful environment with well-maintained pathways, seating areas, and lush greenery, inviting visitors to relax and reflect. Stone-carved memorials commemorate Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and other freedom fighters. From the Flag Point, you can enjoy panoramic views of the Andaman Sea, Ross Island, and North Bay Island. The site is particularly beautiful during sunrise and sunset, when the sky is painted with vibrant colors. Flag Point serves as a reminder of the sacrifices made for India's freedom and the unwavering spirit of its people. It's a place to honor the values of bravery, selflessness, and love for one's country.
