The museum was established in 1973 and later housed in its own building in 1983, thanks to the efforts of Dr. R.S. Gupte and other faculty members. The museum's collection spans from the Paleolithic to the colonial periods, featuring sculptures, semi-precious stones, paintings, coins, and artifacts from excavations. Visitors can explore over 125 carvings depicting the Marathwada lifestyle, along with international items from China and Japan, including China clay, gold embroidery, and ornaments. The museum also displays religious texts and manuscripts in Arabic and Persian from the 18th century. Highlights of the museum include stone and bronze sculptures from the 8th to 16th centuries AD and coins from the punch-mark period to the British period. The museum also features artifacts from the Satavahana dynasty and excavated materials from Bhokardan. The collections were enriched by donations from Dr. S.B. Deshmukh, Sir Rao Bahadur Parasnis, and Sardar Bavane. The museum is open daily from 10 AM to 6 PM, except on Sundays.
