The tracks are a narrow gauge of 2 feet (610 mm).The DHR's route is a marvel of engineering, featuring six zig-zags and three loops (originally five) to navigate the steep gradients. One of the most famous is the Batasia Loop, offering panoramic views of Darjeeling and the snow-capped Kanchenjunga range.
