The Snake farm is nice. Lots of snakes. Well-maintained. The zoo was fun. There is a battery vehicle to take you around. Kids would enjoy. The Crocodile Park was not well-maintained. All in all, a fun day and nice to see the animals.

I had a delightful introductory bird watching trip with my friend Subramanian Sankar who led me on a 3 hour nature walk in a little known birding site near Pallikaranai. It was a revelation to be with Subbu who introduced me to the rich diversity of birds around us, peppering it with information of what it was doing, its normal habits and even how it got its name! Subbu also asked me to listen actively and identified the birds from their calls. I will never forget the Drongo or Weaver bird or even the Ashy Prina that Subbu identified for me. He had all the equipment from a couple of binoculars to a field scope. For me, who is a busy executive, with a packed schedule, this trip was more than birding - it was a whole new sensory experience and a world away from staid office work. Thanks to Subbu for his expert, yet gentle introduction to the world of birds.
