    From Darjeeling town center (Chowk Bazaar), taxis are readily available. A short taxi ride to Dali Monastery typically costs between ₹150-₹250, depending on the season and negotiation. The journey takes approximately 15-20 minutes.

  • Walking

    For those who enjoy walking, Dali Monastery is approximately 5 km from Darjeeling town. The walk is uphill and takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Start from the Darjeeling Railway Station and follow the Hill Cart Road towards Ghoom. The monastery will be on your left. Be prepared for a steep climb and wear comfortable shoes.

  • Public Transport

    Shared jeeps are available from Chowk Bazaar towards Ghoom. Ask the driver to drop you off near Dali Monastery. From the drop-off point, it's a short uphill walk to the monastery. The shared jeep fare is approximately ₹30-₹50 per person. Buses are also available from the bus stand near Chowk Bazaar, with fares around ₹20-₹30.

Nestled in the hills of Darjeeling, about 5 kilometers from the town center, lies the Dali Monastery, officially known as Druk Thupten Sangag Choeling Monastery. This prominent Buddhist monastery, belonging to the Kargyupa sect, serves as the headquarters and residence of the Drukchen Rinpoche XII, the supreme head of the sect. Founded in 1971 by Kyabje Thuksey Rinpoche, the monastery has become a significant center for preserving the age-old culture and traditions of Tibetan monks. In 1993, His Holiness the Dalai Lama inaugurated the gompa and imparted religious teachings for three days. The monastery's architecture showcases a traditional Tibetan style, with vibrant colors depicting the life and teachings of Lord Buddha. Inside, visitors can explore halls housing important Buddhist texts and artifacts. The main hall features colorful thangkas and large Buddha statues, serving as a focal point for daily prayers and rituals. A small library within the monastery holds a collection of books on Buddhism and philosophical acts of life. Visiting during prayer times (5:00 AM - 6:30 AM and 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM) allows one to witness the monks' prayer sessions, creating a deeply spiritual experience. The monastery also has a café where visitors can find vegetarian dishes. The serene ambiance and scenic views from the monastery offer a tranquil escape.
