The Ranchi Science Center, inaugurated in 2010, stands as a beacon of scientific learning and engagement in Jharkhand, India. Established by the National Council of Science Museums, it aims to cultivate interest in science and technology among people of all ages. Spanning 13 acres in the heart of Ranchi, the center features a science museum, a planetarium (Taramandal), and an open-air science park. The science museum is the main attraction, with interactive exhibits and live demonstrations covering physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy, and space science. Key exhibits include a Van de Graaff generator, a Foucault's pendulum, and a Tesla coil. The museum is divided into three thematic galleries: Fun Science, How Things Work, and Wealth of Jharkhand. Fun Science presents science with a fun theme to attract children, offering technical science experiments that need visitor participation to illustrate the logic and knowledge of the subject. How Things Work displays equipment used in daily life. The Wealth of Jharkhand displays the state's natural minerals and vegetation. The open-air science park features outdoor exhibits showcasing principles of mechanics, electricity, magnetism, and optics. The Taramandal planetarium uses a digital projector to simulate the night sky. Visitors can also explore life-sized structures depicting the evolution of dinosaurs.
