Bakthang Waterfall, a serene and picturesque cascade, is conveniently located just a short 20-minute drive from Gangtok. Situated on the North Sikkim Highway (NH10) towards Tashi View Point, it makes for an ideal pit stop. The name 'Bakthang' comes from the Lepcha words 'Bak' (forest) and 'Thang' (meadow), reflecting its enchanting natural surroundings.While not particularly tall at approximately 30-40 feet, the waterfall's beauty lies in its width and the gentle cascade of water over rocks adorned with green creepers. The Ratey Chu river, originating from the Himalayas at an elevation of 12,500 ft, nourishes the falls. The waterfall creates a small pool at the bottom, adding to the scenic charm.Visitors can enjoy the rope slide for a thrilling experience. Local vendors offer traditional Sikkimese attire for photos, allowing visitors to capture memorable moments. A government-run cafeteria provides snacks and beverages, enhancing the overall experience. The waterfall is open from 7 AM to 6 PM.
