Observatory Hill, near Chowrasta Square in Darjeeling, is a hilltop offering panoramic mountain views and a blend of Hindu and Buddhist shrines. Once home to the Bhutia Busty Monastery, it's now a sacred space with the Mahakal Temple, prayer flags, and a revered cave.

Walking
From Chowrasta (The Mall), walk east along the Mall Road for approximately 100 yards. Look for a large signboard indicating the pathway to Observatory Hill and Mahakal Temple. A series of stairs will lead to a steep, narrow uphill road. The walk to the top takes about 15 minutes. There are no vehicle or taxi access to the top of the hill.
Public Transport
While there is no direct public transport to the hilltop, shared taxis are available to Chowrasta (The Mall). From there, follow the walking directions. Shared taxi fares in Darjeeling start from ₹10-₹20 for short trips. From the Darjeeling Railway Station, it is approximately 2km to Observatory Hill. Taxis are readily available from the station. Minimum taxi fares start at ₹150 for short distances.
