Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Panaji Ferry Terminal, walk east along Dayanand Bandodkar Marg for approximately 15 minutes. Kala Academy will be on your left, opposite the Kala Academy. No costs involved.

  • Public Transport

    Take the G1 or G2 bus from Panaji Bus Stand. The bus will drop you off at the Kala Academy bus stop. A single ticket costs approximately INR 10. Buses are operated by Kadamba Transport Corporation.

  • Taxi

    From the Panaji Bus Stand, take a taxi or auto-rickshaw to Kala Academy. The ride is approximately 5 minutes, and the fare will be around INR 85-170. Taxi/rickshaw stands are readily available near the bus stand.

Kala Academy, located in Campal, Panaji, Goa, is a cultural center established in 1970 by the Government of Goa. Designed by Charles Correa, the academy is dedicated to developing and promoting music, dance, drama, fine art, folk art, and literature, fostering the cultural unity of Goa. The academy provides training through its faculty and organizes festivals, competitions, exhibitions, workshops, and seminars. Kala Academy features a 2000-seat open-air amphitheater and a 1000-seat auditorium named Dinanath Mangeshkar Kala Mandir. The Dinanath Mangeshkar auditorium has murals by Maria Miranda. The academy also includes meeting rooms, classrooms, lounges, rehearsal rooms, a cafeteria, and administrative offices. Kala Academy hosts various events, including tiatr festivals, music concerts, dance performances, children's festivals, and drama competitions. It also offers educational initiatives such as the School of Drama, the Faculty of Indian Music and Dance, and Western Music Department. The academy's architecture, with its low horizontal form, parapet walls, and pergolas, connects the building to the Mandovi River landscape.
