Cabo de Rama Fort, located in Canacona, South Goa, is a historical site offering stunning views of the Arabian Sea. The fort is said to be named after Lord Rama, who, according to legend, stayed there with his wife Sita during their exile. The fort has been controlled by Hindu, Muslim, Portuguese, and British rulers, and has served as a military base and a prison. Originally built by the Soonda rulers, the Portuguese took control in 1763 and renovated the fort, adding military barracks, command posts, and a church. The fort covers 180,000 square meters and features laterite rock architecture. Inside the fort, visitors can explore the Chapel of St. Anthony, which is still in use, as well as the fort's bastions and the remnants of its historical architecture. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the Goan coastline and the Arabian Sea from the fort. The fort is open from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM and has no entry fee. The best time to visit is between November and March for pleasant weather. Nearby attractions include Cabo de Rama Beach, Betul Lighthouse, and Canaguinim Beach.
