Ratanmahal Sloth Bear Sanctuary: A Wildlife Haven

Ratanmahal Sloth Bear Sanctuary, established in March 1982, is located in the Dahod district of Central Gujarat, near the border with Madhya Pradesh. This 55-square-kilometer sanctuary is home to Gujarat's largest population of sloth bears, making it a prime destination for wildlife enthusiasts. The sanctuary's rugged topography gives it a feel of a hill station, offering a refreshing escape into nature. The sanctuary's diverse forest types include dry teak forests, mixed deciduous forests, and dry bamboo thickets. The high concentration of Mahuda trees provides a primary food source for the sloth bears, while Jamun trees offer nourishment during the monsoon season. Beyond sloth bears, the sanctuary is home to leopards, hyenas, jungle cats, langurs, and various other mammals.
