Gir National Park, located in Gujarat, India, is a crucial wildlife sanctuary and the last refuge of the Asiatic lion. Once a private hunting ground, the area faced a severe decline in the lion population due to hunting in the 19th century. Conservation efforts, initiated by the Nawab of Junagadh and later supported by the Indian government, led to the establishment of the sanctuary in 1965.Today, Gir National Park is a thriving ecosystem with a rich biodiversity. The Gir Interpretation Zone at Devalia provides a guaranteed sighting of lions and other Gir wildlife in a fenced-off area. The park is typically open from mid-October to mid-June, with safaris available in the morning and afternoon. Booking safaris in advance is highly recommended, especially during peak season.
