Getting There

    From Gulmarg town center, the Gondola boarding point is about 1 km away. A taxi ride to the base station takes approximately 5-10 minutes and costs around ₹200-₹300. Negotiate the fare beforehand.

    The Gulmarg Gondola base station is about a 1 km walk from the Gulmarg parking lot. The walk is relatively flat and takes around 20-30 minutes. Be prepared for potential touts offering horse rides, which are unnecessary for this short, easy walk.

The Gulmarg Gondola is a must-experience attraction in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, renowned as one of the highest and longest cable car projects in Asia. This two-stage gondola lift carries approximately 600 people per hour to and from Kongdoori Mountain, a shoulder of the nearby Apharwat Peak. The Gulmarg Gondola offers stunning views of the snow-capped Himalayas and the surrounding landscape. The first stage of the gondola was completed in 1998, and the second stage opened in 2005. The first phase ascends from Gulmarg at 2,650 meters (8,694 ft) to Kongdoori Station at 3,100 meters (10,167 ft). The second phase continues to a height of 3,980 meters (13,058 ft) on Kongdoori Mountain, near Apharwat Peak. From this height, the views are even more spectacular, and in winter, the slopes offer excellent skiing opportunities. A third phase, added in 2011, features chairlifts connecting Kongdoori to Mary's Shoulder for skiing enthusiasts. The Gulmarg Gondola is a joint venture between the Jammu and Kashmir government and a French company. It has become a major tourist attraction, offering visitors of all ages a unique and thrilling way to experience the beauty of the Himalayas.
