Krishna Sante Street: A Glimpse into Hampi's Bazaar Past

Krishna Sante Street, also known as Krishna Bazaar, is a captivating destination in Hampi, a UNESCO World Heritage site. This recently excavated site was once a bustling marketplace and the chariot street of Lord Krishna. During festivals, the idol of Lord Krishna was paraded down this street. The street, half a kilometer long and 50 meters wide, is lined with pavilions on stone bases, offering a glimpse into the grandeur of the Vijayanagara Empire. Inscriptions reveal that it was a major market for grains, and taxes were collected on sold goods. Chinese porcelain discoveries indicate its importance in trade. Today, visitors can stroll through the ruins, imagining the vibrant market scene from centuries ago. The sacred Pushkarani tank, once used for temple rituals, is located nearby. Although often less crowded than other Hampi sites, Krishna Sante Street offers a unique opportunity to connect with the area's rich history and culture.
