Tilyar Zoo: A Rohtak Wildlife Haven

Tilyar Zoo, situated within the Tilyar Lake complex on Delhi Road in Rohtak, Haryana, has been a popular attraction since its establishment in 1987. The zoo is home to a diverse collection of animals, including tigers, leopards, foxes, hyenas, wolves, gharials, muggers, and jackals. Primate species such as baboons, bonnet macaques, and gray langurs can also be observed. Herbivores like sambar, blackbuck, chinkara, Indian hog deer, and barking deer roam freely within their enclosures. The zoo also features a variety of bird species, including guineafowl, silver pheasant, fantail pigeon, and cockatiel.In 2001, the government of Haryana consolidated several mini-zoos across the state, enhancing the Rohtak Zoo with improved enclosures and aviaries. Visitor facilities were also upgraded, including landscaping, walkways, gardens, artificial waterfalls, a café, restrooms, and shaded resting areas. The Tilyar Lake adjacent to the zoo provides opportunities for boating and picnics, adding to the overall appeal of the complex. The zoo aims to create awareness about local flora and fauna, fostering an appreciation for nature and wildlife conservation.The zoo is known for its well-maintained environment and the opportunity to observe animals up close. Models of animals, drinking water facilities and shaded seating areas are available for visitors. The zoo is typically open from 9 am to 5 pm or 6 pm, but it is advisable to confirm the timings before visiting.
