Public Transport
To reach Spiti Valley via public transport, start by taking a bus from Delhi or Chandigarh to Shimla or Manali. From Shimla, take a bus to Reckong Peo, the headquarters of Kinnaur district. From Reckong Peo, catch another bus to Kaza, the sub-divisional headquarters of Spiti Valley. Alternatively, from Manali, a direct bus to Kaza is available during the summer months. Keep in mind that bus frequency is limited, and the journey can be long and arduous. The bus fare from Reckong Peo to Kaza is approximately ₹480.
Taxi
For a more comfortable and flexible journey, hire a taxi from Shimla or Manali to Spiti Valley. Taxis are readily available at the airports and bus stands. A private taxi from Manali to Kaza can cost between ₹2,800 to ₹3,500 per day, depending on the season and your bargaining skills. Shared taxis are also an option, which can be more cost-effective for solo travelers or small groups. Be prepared for a long and bumpy ride, as the roads in Spiti Valley can be challenging.
