Walking
If you are in Mattancherry, you can simply walk to Vasco da Gama Square. Start at the Mattancherry Palace, which is a well-known landmark. From the palace, head south on Palace Road until you reach the intersection with Kunnumpuram Road. Turn right onto Kunnumpuram Road and continue walking for about 10 minutes. You will pass local shops and eateries along the way. Vasco da Gama Square will be on your left, situated along the waterfront.
Auto-rickshaw
For a quicker option, you can take an auto-rickshaw from any location in Mattancherry. Simply ask the driver to take you to Vasco da Gama Square, which is also known as 'Vasco da Gama Park' in some instances. The fare should be around ₹30 to ₹50 depending on your starting point. Make sure to negotiate the fare before starting your ride. The journey typically takes around 5-10 minutes.
Bicycle Rental
If you prefer a more active mode of transportation, consider renting a bicycle. Several local shops in Mattancherry offer bicycle rentals for around ₹100 per hour. Once you have a bicycle, head towards the main road, and follow the same directions as for walking: pedal towards the Mattancherry Palace, then south on Palace Road, and finally turn right onto Kunnumpuram Road. Enjoy the scenic ride along the waterfront as you approach Vasco da Gama Square.
Use Vasco da Gama Square as your starting point for nearby food, family ideas, nightlife, and more local discoveries.
