Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from Leh, the capital of Ladakh. Head east on the Leh-Manali Highway (NH3) towards Thiksey. The drive is approximately 19 kilometers and takes about 30 to 40 minutes. Follow the road signs to Thiksey Monastery. You'll pass through the scenic landscapes of Ladakh, with beautiful mountains and valleys. Once you reach Thiksey village, look for the towering structure of the monastery on the hilltop. There is a parking area near the entrance.

• Public Transportation

  For public transportation, you can take a shared taxi or a bus from Leh to Thiksey. Shared taxis can be found at the Leh taxi stand, and they usually depart when filled. The fare is around INR 100-150 per person. The journey will take about 30-40 minutes. If you prefer a bus, there are local buses that run from Leh to Thiksey, but they may be less frequent. Make sure to check the bus schedule in advance. Once you arrive in Thiksey village, it’s a short walk to the monastery, following the path leading up the hill.

• Bicycle

  For the more adventurous, cycling to Thiksey Monastery is an option. Rent a bicycle in Leh and head out towards Thiksey. The route is about 19 kilometers with some uphill sections. Ensure you have enough water and snacks, as well as a good map or GPS. The ride offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape. Once you reach Thiksey, there is a parking area for bicycles near the monastery entrance.
