Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest town, Canning. Head south on Canning - Basanti Road (NH-117) for about 20 km. Continue straight until you reach the junction at Basanti. Take a left toward the Sundarbans area. Follow the road for approximately 15 km until you reach the entry point of Sundarbans National Park. Depending on your car's condition and the weather, expect some rough patches. There may be a nominal entry fee that varies based on the vehicle type and number of passengers. After entering the Sundarbans National Park, follow the signs towards Sudhanyakhali, which is approximately 10 km away from the entry point.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, you can take a train from Kolkata to Canning Station. From Canning, board a shared auto-rickshaw or a local bus heading towards Basanti. Once you reach Basanti, switch to a local bus or auto-rickshaw that goes to the Sundarbans National Park entrance. After entering the park, you can hire a local jeep or a boat to reach Sudhanyakhali Watch Tower. Keep in mind that the local transport options may have varying schedules, so it's a good idea to check timings in advance. There may also be small entry fees for the park and for the local transport services.

• Boat

  If you prefer an adventurous route, you can hire a boat from Canning or other nearby towns that provide services to Sundarbans. The boat ride can take several hours depending on the route. Make sure to negotiate the fare beforehand, and confirm the boat's ability to reach Sudhanyakhali, as some boats may not go directly to the watch tower. The scenic boat ride is a unique experience, but be prepared for the cost, which can vary significantly based on the type of boat and duration of hire.
