Chandrashila Peak: Summit of Serenity

Chandrashila Peak, perched at approximately 3,690 meters (12,110 feet) above sea level, is the summit above the Tungnath Temple in Uttarakhand, India. The name Chandrashila, which translates to 'Moon Rock', is derived from Hindu mythology, where the moon-god Chandra is believed to have spent time in penance here. Another legend says that Lord Rama meditated here after defeating Ravana.The trek to Chandrashila is popular among adventure enthusiasts and spiritual seekers. The panoramic views from the summit are stunning, offering a 360-degree vista of the snow-capped Himalayan peaks, including Nanda Devi, Trishul, Chaukhamba, Kedar Peak, and Bandarpunch. The trek usually starts from Chopta, also known as 'Mini Switzerland of India', and passes through dense forests and lush meadows.The Tungnath Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a significant highlight of the trek. Believed to be over 1,000 years old, it is the highest Shiva temple in the world and one of the Panch Kedar temples. According to legend, the temple was built by Arjuna, one of the Pandavas, to appease Lord Shiva. The temple is usually open from April to November.The best time to visit Chandrashila is during the months of April to June and September to November. During these months, the weather is pleasant, and the trails are clear. The trek is considered easy to moderate, making it suitable for beginners and experienced trekkers. However, the final ascent to Chandrashila Peak can be steep.
