Road

The trek starts from Chopta, which is accessible by road from major cities in the Garhwal region of Uttarakhand. From Rishikesh or Dehradun, hire a taxi or take a bus to Chopta. The journey takes approximately 7-8 hours. Taxis from Rishikesh to Chopta may cost around INR 3,000-5,000 , while bus fares are typically between INR 500-1,000. Alternatively, Dugalbitta is located 7km before Chopta on the Ukhimath-Chopta Road. From Rishikesh, a shared jeep/taxi can be booked to Chopta/Dugalbitta. Public transport is also available to reach here.

From Chopta, the trek to Tungnath Temple is a 3.5 km well-defined concrete trail that gradually ascends through meadows and forests. The trek from Tungnath to Chandrashila is a further 1.5 km, involving a steeper climb. Hiring a local guide is advisable, especially during winter, and may cost around INR 1,000-1,500 per day. There are no entry fees for the trek itself, but consider costs for camping if you plan to stay overnight.
