Car
Start your journey from Mumbai. Head east on the Eastern Express Highway (NH 3) towards Thane. After approximately 30 km, take the exit for NH 48 towards Pune. Continue on NH 48 for about 65 km until you reach the town of Karjat. At Karjat, follow signs for Matheran. The road will lead you to the base of Matheran, where you will need to park your car as Matheran is a vehicle-free zone. The parking fee is generally around INR 50-100 depending on the duration of your stay. From here, you can choose to walk or take a horseback ride to reach Garbett Point, which is about 3 km away and offers stunning views along the way.
Public Transportation
Begin your trip by taking a local train from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CST) to Karjat. The trains are frequent and the journey takes around 2 hours. Upon arriving at Karjat station, exit the station and look for local rickshaws or taxis that can take you to the base of Matheran. The fare is typically around INR 300-400. Once you reach the entrance of Matheran, you will need to leave your vehicle behind as Matheran does not allow cars. You can either walk or hire a horse to Garbett Point, which is approximately a 3 km trek. Expect to pay around INR 300 for a horse ride.
Trekking
If you are feeling adventurous and physically fit, you can opt for a trek to Garbett Point from Matheran. Start from the main market area in Matheran and follow the well-marked trekking path. It is advisable to carry water and snacks as the trek can take about 1-1.5 hours to reach Garbett Point. The trek is moderately challenging and offers beautiful scenery along the way. Make sure to check the weather conditions before you embark on your trek.
