Getting There

• Car

  From any location within Hoosier National Forest, navigate to IN-46. If you're in the eastern part of the forest, take IN-46 west. If you're in the western part, you may need to take local roads to reach IN-46. Once on IN-46, drive until you reach the junction with IN-48. Turn onto IN-48 heading south. Continue driving for approximately 10 miles. Shakamak State Park will be on your left at 6265 IN-48, Jasonville, IN 47438. Look for the park entrance sign.

• Public Transportation

  Public transportation options are limited in this rural area. The nearest town with public transport is Jasonville. If you're starting from a larger city like Bloomington, take a Greyhound or similar bus service to Jasonville. From Jasonville, you will need to arrange for a taxi or rideshare service, as there is no public transport directly to the park. The taxi ride from Jasonville to Shakamak State Park is approximately 10 minutes and should cost around $15-$20.

• Bicycle

  If you're feeling adventurous and are staying nearby, consider biking to Shakamak State Park. From the nearest bike-friendly area, head towards IN-48. Be cautious, as this is a highway with traffic. The route will be approximately 5-7 miles depending on your starting point. Ensure you wear a helmet and follow all bike safety regulations.
