    Start from the center of Richmond at Broad Street and 7th Street. Head south on 7th Street until you reach E Main Street. Turn left onto E Main Street and continue walking until you reach 12th Street. Turn right onto 12th Street and walk all the way down to the waterfront area. You will see signs for the James River Canal as you approach Riverside Drive. Follow Riverside Drive south, and you will find the entrance to the James River Canal along the riverbank.

    From the central bus station in Richmond, take the #1 bus towards Riverside Drive. Stay on the bus for approximately 20 minutes. Get off at the stop near Riverside Drive and 21st Street. From there, walk east towards the river and follow Riverside Drive along the water until you reach the James River Canal entrance located between 1701 and 6700 Riverside Drive.
