Car
To reach Luhr County Park by car, start from the main attractions in The Dunes area. Head east on IN-12 toward La Porte. Continue on IN-12 for about 10 miles. As you approach La Porte, turn right onto IN-35 S and continue for approximately 2 miles. Turn left onto S 150 W, and you will find Luhr County Park at 3178 S 150 W on your left. There is no entrance fee for the park.
Public Transportation
To visit Luhr County Park using public transportation, first find the nearest bus stop that services routes to La Porte. Take the bus to the La Porte Transit Center. From there, you can call a local taxi service or use a rideshare app to get to Luhr County Park at 3178 S 150 W, which is about 5 miles away from the transit center. Be prepared for a taxi fare that may range from $10 to $15.
Bicycle
If you're feeling adventurous, you can also bike to Luhr County Park. From The Dunes, take the scenic route along the Lake Michigan shoreline and follow local trails leading toward La Porte. It's about a 12-mile ride, so be sure to bring plenty of water and snacks. The park has bike racks for you to lock your bike upon arrival.
Walking
Walking to Luhr County Park is not practical given the distance from The Dunes, but if you're in the nearby La Porte area, you can walk to the park from downtown. It's about a 1.5-mile walk from the La Porte Transit Center. Head south on IN-35 S, then turn left onto S 150 W. The park entrance will be on your left.
