Public Transportation
If you are starting from Banda Neira, head to the local public transport terminal. Look for a 'angkot' (minibus) heading towards Banda Naira. The fare is usually around IDR 10,000 to IDR 15,000. Inform the driver you want to go to Gunung Api, as they will know the route. The angkot will drop you off at the nearest point to the foot of Gunung Api.
Walking
From the drop-off point, you will need to walk approximately 1.5 kilometers towards the base of Gunung Api. Follow the signs or ask locals for directions. The path is well-trodden, and you will pass through beautiful landscapes. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes as the terrain can be uneven.
Hiking
Once you reach the base of Gunung Api, prepare for a hike. The trail is moderately challenging and takes about 2-3 hours to reach the summit. Make sure to carry sufficient water, snacks, and sun protection. Note that there may be a small entrance fee for the hiking area, typically around IDR 20,000.
Car Rental
If you prefer more comfort, consider renting a car from Banda Neira. Rental services can be found near the harbor. The cost usually ranges from IDR 300,000 to IDR 500,000 per day. Drive towards the Gunung Api area, following local signage. Parking is available near the hiking trailhead.
