Car
If you're traveling by car, the most common route to Ijen is from Banyuwangi. From Banyuwangi, head east on Jalan Raya Banyuwangi towards Jember. After approximately 30 kilometers, take the right turn onto Jalan Raya Ijen. Follow this road for about 20 kilometers until you reach the Ijen Crater entrance. Be prepared for steep and winding roads. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition as some sections may be challenging.
Public Transportation
To reach Ijen via public transportation, first take a bus from Surabaya to Banyuwangi. The bus journey takes around 8-10 hours, costing approximately IDR 150,000 to IDR 200,000. Once in Banyuwangi, you can take a minivan (angkot) to Licin, which costs around IDR 30,000. From Licin, you will need to hire a local ojek (motorcycle taxi) to take you to the Ijen Crater entrance, which will cost around IDR 100,000 to IDR 150,000.
