From Timika, you can take a public minibus (known locally as an 'angkot') to Tembagapura. The minibus departs from the central market in Timika. Be sure to confirm with the driver that they are going to Tembagapura. The fare is around 20,000 IDR (Indonesian Rupiah). The journey takes about 1-1.5 hours, depending on road conditions. Once you arrive in Tembagapura, you can hire a local guide or arrange for transportation to explore the New Guinea Highlands.
