Car
If you are driving from the city of Pontianak, take the Trans Kalimantan Highway (Route 1) heading east. Follow the signs for Sintang and continue for about 5-6 hours. Once in Sintang, take the road towards Putussibau, which will lead you closer to the northern part of Borneo. Make sure to have a map or GPS handy as some areas may have limited signage. The journey is approximately 10-12 hours in total, so plan for rest stops along the way.
Bus
From Pontianak, you can take a bus from the main terminal (Terminal Induk) to Sintang. Buses run regularly and the fare is around 150,000 IDR (approximately $10). The bus journey takes about 6-7 hours. After arriving in Sintang, you will need to catch a connecting bus to Putussibau, which costs around 100,000 IDR ($7) and takes an additional 4-5 hours. Make sure to check the bus schedules in advance as they may vary.
Boat
If you want an adventurous route, consider taking a boat from Pontianak to various destinations along the Kapuas River. This can be arranged through local tour operators. The fare will depend on your specific route and stops, typically starting around 250,000 IDR (about $17) for a short trip. Ensure you check the boat schedules and availability as they can be limited.
