Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Medan, take the Jalan Lintas Sumatera highway (Route 1) south. Continue for approximately 250 kilometers until you reach the town of Panyabungan. Once you arrive, follow signs toward Ranto Baek. The Tugu Perbatasan Sumbar-Sumut is located in Simaninggir, Ranto Baek, Mandailing Natal Regency. Look for the landmark as you approach; it is situated near the border between West Sumatra and North Sumatra. Ensure your vehicle has enough fuel for the trip, as there may be limited fuel stations along the highway.

• Public Transportation

  From Medan, you can take a bus to Panyabungan from the Amplas bus terminal. The bus ride will take around 6-8 hours, depending on traffic. Once you arrive at the Panyabungan bus terminal, you can take a local angkot (minivan) or hire a motorcycle taxi to Simaninggir, which is about 30 kilometers away. The angkot fare is usually around IDR 20,000-30,000. Make sure to confirm the final destination with the driver.

• Motorcycle Taxi

  For a more flexible option, consider hiring a motorcycle taxi (ojek) from Panyabungan to Tugu Perbatasan Sumbar-Sumut. After arriving at the Panyabungan bus terminal, you can negotiate a fare with the driver. The journey should take about 30-45 minutes, and the fare typically ranges from IDR 50,000-100,000, depending on your bargaining skills and the distance.
