If you are driving in Southeast Sulawesi, you can reach Sulawesi Island by taking the Trans-Sulawesi Highway (also known as Jalan Trans Sulawesi). Start from Kendari, the capital of Southeast Sulawesi, and drive northwest towards the port city of Kolaka. From Kolaka, follow the signs to the ferry terminal for the crossing to Sulawesi Island. The ferry ride to the nearest port on Sulawesi will take approximately 2-3 hours. Be sure to check the ferry schedule ahead of time as they may vary, and tickets range from IDR 100,000 to IDR 200,000 depending on the vehicle size.

For those who prefer public transportation, you can take a bus from Kendari to Kolaka. Buses leave frequently from the main bus terminal in Kendari. The journey takes about 4-5 hours and costs around IDR 50,000 to IDR 100,000. Once in Kolaka, you will need to take a taxi or a local bemo (public minivan) to the ferry terminal. From Kolaka, board the ferry to Sulawesi; tickets can be purchased at the terminal.
