Car
If you are traveling by car, start your journey from Pontianak, the capital city of West Kalimantan. Head north on Jalan Raya Pontianak - Singkawang (Route 1) for approximately 150 kilometers until you reach Sintang. This drive will take about 4-5 hours depending on traffic. Once in Sintang, follow the signs to Kapuas Hulu via Jalan Raya Sintang - Kapuas Hulu (Route 2). Continue on this road for about 90 kilometers until you reach the entrance of Danau Sentarum in Kapuas Hulu Regency. You may need to hire a local guide to access the lake area itself.
Public Transportation
For those using public transportation, take a bus from Pontianak to Sintang. Buses depart regularly from the main bus terminal and the journey takes approximately 5-6 hours. Once in Sintang, you can find local transport options such as shared taxis or minivans to take you to Kapuas Hulu. The ride to Kapuas Hulu takes about 2-3 hours. Upon arrival, you may need to hire a local boat or guide to navigate to Danau Sentarum and explore the lake.
Boat
If you prefer an adventurous route, consider traveling by boat. From Sintang, you can hire a traditional longboat to take you to Danau Sentarum. This journey will take longer, typically around 6-8 hours, but it offers a unique experience of the natural beauty along the rivers. Make sure to negotiate the price with the boat operator before setting off.
