    If you're traveling by car, start your journey from Padang, the capital city of West Sumatra. Take the Jl. Raya Padang - Bukittinggi road (also known as Jl. Ahmad Yani), which is well-marked and generally in good condition. After approximately 75 km (around 1.5 hours), you will reach the town of Batusangkar. From Batusangkar, follow the signs to Pagaruyung, which is about 5 km away. The Istano Basa Pagaruyung is located on Jl. Sutan Alam Bagagarsyah in Pagaruyung. Look for the iconic traditional Minangkabau architecture as you approach the site. Parking is available near the entrance.

  • Public Transportation (Bus)

    To reach Istano Basa Pagaruyung via public transportation, head to the Padang Bus Terminal (Terminal Alang-Alang Lebar). Look for buses heading to Bukittinggi. These buses frequently run and the fare is approximately IDR 50,000. After about 2 hours of travel, get off at Batusangkar. From Batusangkar, you can take a local angkot (minibus) or ojek (motorcycle taxi) for a short ride (5 km) directly to Istano Basa Pagaruyung. The angkot fare is around IDR 10,000.

Once you arrive in Bukittinggi, you can take a local bus or angkot to Batusangkar.
