Discover more about Latham Park

Latham Park, a hidden gem in Sioux City, Iowa, offers a tranquil escape with its beautifully maintained grounds and vibrant floral displays. Located in the Morningside neighborhood at 1915 S. Lemon Street, this privately owned park spans almost a full acre. The park features a diverse collection of flowering plants, attracting various songbirds, and provides quiet sitting areas for relaxation. A central fountain adds to the serene atmosphere. The park's history dates back to Benjamin and Elizabeth Latham, who moved to the Morningside area in 1899. Their sons, Elbert and Leslie, built the family home on the property in 1915. After the death of Clara Latham in 1937, the property was established as a trust to preserve her home as a community park. Today, Security National Bank manages the trust, ensuring the park's upkeep for public enjoyment. Visitors can stroll through the park, read a book, or enjoy a picnic. The park hosts community events, including the annual Art in the Park festival in September. The Friends of Latham Park Association, formed in 2003, supports the park's preservation. The park's resident caretakers live on the upper floors of the Latham house and maintain the grounds.
