Discover more about Brown Derby Ballroom

The Brown Derby Ballroom, located in the heart of downtown Waterloo, Iowa, is a historic landmark that has been meticulously restored to its former glory. Constructed in 1906, the building initially served as the lodge for the Waterloo Elks Club, also housing Eighmay's Grocery on the first floor and apartments for bachelors on the third. Over the years, it also housed the Knights of Columbus and even served as a flu hospital during the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1918. In its heyday, the Brown Derby was a popular night club, but it eventually fell into disrepair. A group dedicated to preserving Waterloo's history undertook the task of restoring the building, and today it stands as a premier event space managed by JSA Development. The ballroom boasts an elegant first-floor lobby and a spacious ballroom on the second floor, encompassing approximately 5,500 square feet with a seating capacity of 220. The venue is equipped with modern amenities, including sound systems and color-changing LED lights, while retaining its vintage charm with restored plaster designs and a recreated tin ceiling. The Brown Derby Ballroom is a versatile space suitable for weddings, charity events, corporate gatherings, and concerts. Its rich history and elegant ambiance make it a unique and memorable venue for any occasion. Note that the Brown Derby Ballroom will not be taking any bookings after November 1, 2025.
