If you are in downtown Waterloo, start at the Waterloo Public Library located at 415 Commercial St. Walk west on Commercial St for 0.2 miles until you reach the intersection with Park Ave. Turn right on Park Ave and continue walking for about 0.4 miles. You will pass by several shops and cafes. As you approach the intersection with 4th St, look for a small park area on your left. The First Log House Historical Marker is located in this park, near the corner of Park Ave and 4th St.

If you have a bike, you can start from the RiverLoop Amphitheatre at 225 Commercial St. Head north on the bike path along the Cedar River for about 1 mile. When you reach the intersection with Park Ave, turn left. Continue for about 0.3 miles, and the First Log House Historical Marker will be on your right, just before the intersection with 4th St, in a small park area.
