Discover more about Crossroads Mall

Crossroads Mall, located in Waterloo, Iowa, holds a significant place in the state's retail history as one of the first enclosed shopping malls in Iowa, opening its doors in 1970. For many years, it served as a major shopping destination for residents of northeast Iowa, drawing visitors from over 50 miles away. The mall is located near the interchange of Interstate 380 and U.S. Highway 20.Originally, the mall boasted several anchor stores, including Sears, JCPenney, Black's (later Donaldson's and Carson Pirie Scott), and Younkers. Over time, these anchors changed, with Dillard's and Gordmans joining the lineup. A $4 million renovation in 1997 coincided with the opening of a new Dillard's anchor store, marking a high point for the mall. However, the early 2000s brought challenges as consumer preferences shifted and anchor stores began to close.Today, Crossroads Mall is a shopping center in transition. While it has faced store closures, it still provides retail and dining options. Crossroads Mall is owned by Namdar Realty Group.
