Discover more about Waterloo City Hall

Waterloo City Hall serves as the central point for the administration of Waterloo, Iowa. Located on Mulberry Street, it houses the offices of the city's various departments. While not a traditional tourist attraction, it plays a vital role in the community as the seat of local governance. The current City Hall has an interesting history; a building assessment in 2017 determined it was the second most 'troubled' building in the area. Originally built in the 1950s as a bomb shelter, the building has faced multiple issues over the years. Due to the high cost of rebuilding at the original site, the Waterloo City Council decided to move City Hall to the former Courier building on East Fourth Street. Despite the upcoming relocation, the current City Hall remains a significant landmark in downtown Waterloo until the move is complete.Waterloo itself has a rich history, initially named Prairie Rapids Crossing before becoming Waterloo after a petition for a post office. The city is a major manufacturing, commercial, and cultural center in Northeast Iowa, known as the 'Factory City' due to the John Deere agricultural machinery produced here for over a century.
