Witmer House: A Georgian Revival Gem in Des Moines

The Witmer House, situated in Des Moines' Owl's Head Historic District, offers a glimpse into the city's past. He and his wife, Mary, raised their family in the home, which later played a significant role in Iowa's political landscape. From 1947 to 1976, the Witmer House served as the Iowa Governor's Mansion, housing seven governors. Later, the Iowa High School Girl's Athletic Association (IGHSAA) used it as their headquarters.Today, the Witmer House is a private residence, but its historical and architectural significance remains. Its well-preserved exterior and classic Georgian Revival features make it a notable landmark in Des Moines.
