Duhok National Museum: A Window to Kurdistan's Past

The National Museum in Duhok, located in the heart of the city, serves as a significant cultural institution dedicated to preserving and showcasing the history of the Kurdistan Region. Established to safeguard the area's rich heritage, the museum offers visitors a glimpse into the diverse civilizations that have shaped the region over millennia. The museum's collection includes artifacts unearthed by Kurdish archaeologists in the Duhok region, with the oldest dating back to the seventh millennium BCE. Visitors can explore exhibits featuring Roman coins, cuneiform texts, pottery, stone vases, oil lamps, glass bottles, and books from the Middle Ages. Neolithic statues and assorted jewelry are also among the displayed items. The museum also highlights traditional Kurdish culture, with exhibits of clothing, textiles, and musical instruments. While the museum's current facility displays a selection of its 3,000 artifacts, plans are underway to move to a new, larger location with a park and expanded exhibit space. This expansion aims to provide a better environment for the artifacts and enhance the visitor experience. The museum is open from Sunday to Thursday, with limited hours in the morning.
