Discover more about Halfaya Field

Halfaya Field, situated east of Amarah in the Maysan Governorate, stands as one of Iraq's most significant oil fields. Discovered in 1976, the field is estimated to contain 4.1 billion barrels of recoverable oil reserves. This vast resource has made Halfaya a key player in Iraq's oil production strategy, which accounts for a large percentage of the country's fiscal revenue. In 2009, a consortium led by the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) secured a deal to develop the field, with France's Total S.A. and Malaysia's Petronas also taking part. Since then, the field has undergone extensive development, significantly increasing its production capacity. The first phase of development was completed in June 2012, boosting production from a modest 3,000 barrels per day to an impressive 100,000 barrels per day. Subsequent expansion phases have further increased output, with the field now capable of producing hundreds of thousands of barrels per day.The Halfaya project has not only contributed to Iraq's economic growth but has also brought about significant local development. PetroChina has invested in infrastructure projects, including roads, power plants, and water treatment facilities, improving living conditions for local communities. The project has also created numerous job opportunities for Iraqis, fostering economic stability and growth in the region.
