Discover more about Dalkey Quarry

Dalkey Quarry, located on Dalkey Hill, is a historic site that now serves as a popular rock climbing venue. Quarrying operations began in the early 19th century (1815-1817) to extract granite for the construction of Dún Laoghaire harbor and the South Bull Wall. The granite from Dalkey was known for its exceptional hardness. The quarry was abandoned in 1917 and later became part of Killiney Hill Park. Today, Dalkey Quarry is divided into three main climbing sections: the Upper Cliffs, the West Valley, and the East Valley. The Upper Cliffs offer longer routes, while the West and East Valleys provide a variety of climbs for different skill levels. The quarry is a traditional climbing area, and bolted sport climbing routes are not permitted. The quarry's location provides stunning views of Dublin City and Dublin Bay. The trails around the quarry are well-marked, making it easy to explore the area. Dalkey Quarry is a blend of adventure, history, and natural beauty.
