The Killaspugbrone Loop Walk is a scenic 6.8km trail near Strandhill, Co. Sligo, offering stunning views of the Atlantic coastline, Benbulben mountain, and the ruins of Killaspugbrone Church, founded in the 5th century by Saint Patrick. The loop combines coastal paths, beaches, and roadways, suitable for walkers of various fitness levels.

Walking
From the main street in Strandhill village, walk towards the beach. Follow the coastline path leading to the start of the Killaspugbrone Loop Walk. The loop begins at the northern end of the Strandhill promenade, near the cannon. This initial walk is free and offers scenic views of the ocean and surrounding landscapes.
Public Transport
From Sligo town, take Bus Éireann route S2 towards Strandhill. The bus departs from directly across the road from the Bus Station in Sligo, outside of Centra on Knappagh Road. The final stop is at the entrance to the public car park, about 100m from the shore. From there, walk down to the cannon and turn right to enter the Killaspugbrone Loop Walk via the Strandhill Caravan & Camping Park. As of July 2025, a single adult fare from Sligo to Strandhill is approximately €4.30.
Car
From Sligo town, take the R292 road towards Strandhill. Follow the signs for Strandhill. Once in Strandhill, look for signs pointing to the Killaspugbrone Loop Walk. Park in the public car park near the beach. Parking fees may apply, especially during peak season. Note that free parking is available on the promenade, but spaces fill quickly during good weather and weekends.
