  • Walking

    From the Spanish Arch, walk west along the river Corrib, then turn left onto Fr Griffin Rd. Continue along Fr Griffin Rd, then turn left onto Fairhill Rd Upper. Katie's Claddagh Cottage will be on your left. The walk is approximately 10 minutes.

  • Public Transport

    From Eyre Square, take the 401 bus towards the Claddagh. The bus will take approximately 4 minutes and will drop you off at Father Griffin Road. From there, walk a short distance to Fairhill Road Upper, where Katie's Claddagh Cottage is located. The bus fare is approximately €3-€5.

The village dates back to the fifth century and was inhabited by a close-knit community with its own customs, traditions, and even its own elected King. The Claddagh is also famous as the origin of the Claddagh ring, a symbol of love, loyalty, and friendship. Katie's Claddagh Cottage is a replica of a traditional thatched cottage from the early 1900s. Owner Mike Walsh recreated the cottage to provide visitors with an immersive experience of what life was like in this unique community. Inside, you'll find a cozy interior with a turf fire, traditional furnishings, and artifacts that evoke the spirit of the past. Visitors can learn about the daily lives of the Claddagh people, their fishing traditions, and their unique cultural heritage.
