    Castle Saunderson is located on the Cavan – Clones road (N54), approximately 18km north of Cavan Town and 7km east of Belturbet. From the N54, drive 1.5km into the estate, following signs for the castle walk. Parking is available adjacent to the castle.

Castle Saunderson, located near Belturbet in County Cavan, is a historical site with a rich and complex past. Originally known as Breffni Castle and held by the O'Reilly clan, the land was granted to the Saunderson family during the Ulster Plantation in the early 17th century. The castle's history is intertwined with fire, blood, and conquest, reflecting the turbulent story of Ireland itself. The present-day castle ruins date back to 1840 and showcase a Tudor Gothic design. The castle played a significant role in Irish political history, particularly through Colonel Edward James Saunderson, a founder of the Ulster Unionist Party. The estate also has a Scouting Centre. Visitors can explore the castle grounds via reinstated walkways, with information panels detailing the history of the Saunderson family and the castle. The 2.5 kilometer Castle Saunderson Walking Trail winds through woodlands and along the shores of Lough Scolban, offering scenic views and a chance to connect with nature. The trail also passes by the Saunderson Church. In 2012, the Castle Saunderson International Scouting Centre was established on the grounds, promoting peace, reconciliation, and multiculturalism. The center provides accommodation and camping facilities and is open to Scouts and non-Scouts.
