The railway spans 2.5 miles (4 km) through the park's lower gardens, offering picturesque views of the surrounding landscape. Opened in 2013, the Difflin Lake Railway features three locomotives: the Duchess of Difflin, a steam engine; the Earl of Oakfield, a blue diesel engine; and the Bishop Twysden, the first full locomotive built in Donegal. The Duchess of Difflin, with its red and cream livery reminiscent of the Wee Donegal trains, operates on the last Sunday of each month during the season. The Earl of Oakfield and Bishop Twysden run on other days, providing regular rides for park visitors. Oakfield Park itself offers a variety of attractions, including gardens, lakes, and walking trails, making it an ideal destination for a family day out. The Difflin Lake Railway enhances the park experience, providing a unique way to explore the grounds and appreciate the beauty of the Donegal countryside.
