Discover more about Rossylongan Forest

Rossylongan Forest, part of the old MacManus Estate near Donegal Town, is a haven of tranquility and art. The estate was once owned by the MacManus family, who bequeathed it to the people of Donegal Town. In the early 20th century, Padraig Mac Manus developed the estate with local workers, extending the house, planting a large orchard, and planting trees. Today, the forest features walking trails dotted with intricately carved wooden sculptures by artist Gintas Poderys, adding an enchanting layer to the natural landscape. Visitors can wander through the lush greenery, enjoying the fresh air and the soothing sounds of nature. The sculptures, depicting local wildlife and woodland scenes, provide a unique blend of art and nature. The trails offer a peaceful escape for families, nature enthusiasts, and anyone seeking a quiet moment away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The Friends of Rossylongan Forest and Coillte have collaborated to enhance the forest, improving trails and adding picnic areas. The MacManus Estate has a rich history, with many locals having family links to the estate through past generations who worked there or had connections to the MacManus family. The community takes pride in this beautiful corner of Donegal, making it a special place to visit.
