Getting there

Car

If you're driving from the town of Letterkenny, head west on the N56 road. After about 23 km, turn onto the R245 road towards Buncrana. Continue on the R245 for approximately 22 km until you reach Buncrana. Once in Buncrana, follow the signs to Fort Dunree, which is located about 8 km away. The final stretch will take you onto Dunree View, which leads directly to the fort.

Public Transportation

From Letterkenny, take a bus to Buncrana. The bus service (Bus Éireann route 64) operates regularly and the journey takes about 50 minutes. After arriving in Buncrana, you can either take a taxi or a local bus service to reach Fort Dunree, which is approximately 8 km away. Taxis are readily available near the bus station, and the ride should cost around €10-€15.

Walking

If you are already in Buncrana and prefer to walk, head northwest on the R246 road from the town center. Follow the signs towards Fort Dunree. The walk is approximately 8 km and will take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and enjoy the scenic views along the way.

Taxi

Taxis are available in Buncrana and can take you directly to Fort Dunree. The journey is about 8 km and typically takes around 15 minutes. Expect to pay between €10-€15 for a one-way trip.
